Cooper again received the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) “Three Star” rating for the quality of cardiac surgical performance, placing the program in the top 12 percent of hospitals nationwide. The STS maintains the largest single specialty database, with over 900 hospitals participating and 3.5 million patient records analyzed annually. Cooper’s team, led by Michael Rosenbloom, MD, FACS, FACC, are performing innovative and complex procedures in a patient population that is often medically complex. In 2009, for example, 91 percent of CABGs at Cooper were performed off-pump, compared to 21 percent nationwide.
