Paul Williams, 66, of Waterfordworks, New Jersey, developed Sinus node dysfunction (SND). In most patients, treatment of this heart condition requires a medical device, which uses electrical impulses to regulate the beating of his heart.
Mr. Williams, however, is also a thyroid cancer survivor and his physicians recommend regular MRI scans to monitor any possible cancer recurrence. MRI procedures for patients with traditional, implanted pacemakers are not recommended because these patients might face serious complications, such as interference with pacemaker operation, damage to system components, lead or pacemaker dislodgement.
But, those complications are not an issue for Paul, as he was recently the first patient in the region to receive the Revo MRI™ SureScan® pacing system. This is the first MR-Conditional pacing system designed, tested and FDA approved for use in the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) environment.
Watch as Paul and his doctors discuss the benefits of his new pacemaker on the day of his surgery.
