Cooper Goes Red for Women and the American Health Association

This week, events taking place throughout Cooper to raise awareness of cardiovascular disease in women will include:
• The One Cooper Plaza light box will be illuminated in red.
• The Roberts Pavilion lobby will be lit in red.
• A “Women and Heart Disease” information table outside the cafeteria at lunchtime on “Go Red” day, Friday, February 7, 2014.
• Red food in the cafeteria – the delicacies will include Tilapia Vera Cruz, Chicken Cacciatore, Vegetarian Vegetable Soup, Stewed Tomatoes, Red Beans and Rice, and Roasted Red Beets – on Friday, February 7, 2014.

Some facts about heart disease in women:
• More women die from heart disease than from all kinds of cancers combined.
• Approximately 42 million women in the United States are affected by heart disease.
• Ninety percent of women have one or more risk factors for developing heart disease.
• Women’s heart disease symptoms are different from men’s and are often hidden or misunderstood.
