Extern Program Makes “Big Difference” In Nursing Students’ Lives

Last week, Cooper’s very successful eight-week nurse extern program concluded for the summer. Nurses, physicians, technicians, leaders, and staff mentored, coached, and supported our externs. The generosity of time had a positive impact on the externs and speaks volumes on the commitment to the future success of others.
Here are some of the comments the nurse externs shared:

Extern 1
“All in all, the wealth of clinical knowledge that I attained in just eight weeks in this program has been so much more than I could’ve asked for. Working at Cooper University Hospital has given me invaluable tools that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. I cannot begin to thank you enough for the experience you all gave to me. Thank you and all the staff who helped put this program together. You have made a big difference in my life.”

Extern 2
“This summer was such a special experience that I really can’t thank you all enough. The externship program is a great way to give rising nursing students that extra clinical time they don’t receive from the school year or our textbooks. I couldn’t put into words how much this summer actually meant to me. All the staff made me feel like their own, no matter the location, from the OR experience during lifesaving procedures, to the different floors during codes and rapid responses and especially to my own unit, the CCU. All of the nurses and doctors took the time out of their busy schedules to include me in their procedures and to educate me whenever possible on everything and anything they could think of.”
