Dr. Robin Wilson-Smith Recently Performed Her 500th Surgery Using daVinci Robotic Surgery System

Robin Wilson-Smith, DO, FACOG, FACOOG, Attending Physician, Division of Gynecologic Oncology, MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper, recently performed her 500th surgery using the daVinci Robotic Surgery System. This accomplishment demonstrates Dr. Wilson-Smith’s advanced level of expertise with this state-of-the-art technology. With the da Vinci Surgical System, surgeons operate through just a few small incisions. The da Vinci System features a magnified 3D, high-definition vision system and tiny wristed instruments that bend and rotate far greater than the human hand. As a result, da Vinci enables Cooper surgeons to operate with enhanced vision, precision, and control. In addition to a quicker recovery time for patients, other potential benefits of robotic surgery include less blood loss, reduced post-operative pain, faster and easier recovery, less scarring, and quicker return to daily activities. Robotic-assisted surgery is being used at Cooper University Health Care to treat a number of gynecologic, urologic, thoracic, and other concerns.
