Psychiatry Grand Rounds: Motivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing is a humanistic, client-centered method for enhancing intrinsic motivation to change by exploring and resolving ambivalence. This method of communication allows an individual to reflect upon his or her own values, reasons and motivations for change. It has been shown to be effective for addressing various health problems, including substance abuse, weight loss, and treatment adherence.
