UPDATED: Important Hospital Construction Announcement

Due to weather, construction will begin Tuesday, June 12, not Monday, June 11 as previously announced. This post has been updated to reflect this information.

Dear Cooper Team:

To ensure Cooper University Health Care is able to provide vital health care services during an extended power outage, construction has begun on a state approved and funded power plant along Benson Street on our campus. The new power plant will also provide substantial long-term benefits to Cooper by allowing us to generate power more efficiently and reduce our energy costs.

We apologize for this short-term inconvenience.  We understand it will be challenging for both patients and staff entering and leaving at the Kelemen Circle for a few weeks. We have made every effort to ensure that the below plan is the least disruptive way to perform this essential portion of the installation of our new power plant.

As part of the construction, work needs to be done at the Kelemen Building Circle. This work will begin Tuesday, June 12, 2018, and continue through Friday, June 22, 2018. As a result, the Kelemen Circle will be closed to all vehicle traffic Monday through Friday 6:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., except for Emergency Department patients and Cooper Shuttles.

Vehicles will not be allowed to use Kelemen Circle to drop off employees for work during those times of day.

Additionally, from June 11, 2018, through Friday, June 22, 2018, the following traffic pattern changes (see diagrams below) will be in effect Monday through Friday, from 6:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.:

  • Benson Street traffic will be one-way moving from Haddon Avenue to Broadway.
  • All traffic travelling on S. 7th Street to Benson Street will be required to turn left toward Broadway.
  • All traffic travelling on S. 6th Street to Benson Street will be required to turn left toward Broadway.
  • All vehicles leaving the CCIA parking lot will have to turn right toward Broadway.

Normal traffic patterns will return after 4:30 p.m.

Camden County Police Department will direct traffic on Benson Street. Camden County Sheriff’s Officers and Cooper Security Officers will be at the Kelemen Circle to limit traffic to patients and Cooper Shuttles.

Please plan your travel accordingly. Thank you for your cooperation while we make these important improvements to our facilities.

Thank you.
