Beware of Physician Award Scams

We want to caution the medical staff about some aggressive direct marketing companies soliciting our physicians.

As you may know, many local and regional magazines publish various Top Doctors issues in which Cooper is always well represented. Cooper’s Marketing Department provides an annual certificate to those physicians highlighted listing the publication(s) in which they were featured. There is never a cost involved.

However, there are some predatory companies that cull information from these Top Doctors publications and attempt to directly sell plaques and other display merchandise at greatly inflated costs. Similarly, there are companies that directly contact physicians for participation in pay-to-play award programs.

Here is a partial list of some of the companies we are aware of that should be avoided:

  • Showmark Media – culls information from legitimate sources and attempts to sell plaques and other award displays.
  • America’s Best in Medicine – offers award designations and listings for a participation fee.

If you are unsure about any marketing or public relations opportunities that come to you from outside sources, please contact Jill Lawlor at 856.382.6467 or lawlor-jill@cooperhealth.edu, or Wendy Marano at 856.382.6463 or marano-wendy@cooperhealth.edu.
