Power Plant Construction Update: Work Starts Wednesday, August 29

There are a number of exciting construction projects underway on the Health Sciences Campus to help us operate more efficiently and better serve our patients. Recently, we opened the Emergency Department I-Track Building and started construction on a new conference center on the west side of the hospital entrance.

Additionally, we are continuing important work on our new power plant. When complete, the power plant will connect all of our Health Sciences Campus buildings with efficient power and allow Cooper to provide electricity to its facilities during power outages.

As work continues on this important project, there will be temporary and periodic road closures and traffic pattern changes as outlined below. All hospital services will remain open during these temporary road closures, but your commute to and from the hospital may be affected.

Below is the latest schedule of work:

Wednesday, August 29 through August 31, 2018:

  • Benson Street closed between 7th and 6th streets to through traffic, 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
  • One-way traffic westbound from 7th Street to Broadway will be permitted from 4 p.m. to 6 a.m. Exiting from CCIA garage on Benson Street will require a right turn toward Broadway only.
  • Pedestrians will have access to the sidewalk on the south side of Benson Street.
  • Emergency vehicle access to the Emergency Department will not be interrupted during this period.
  • Shuttle service will continue at Kelemen Circle, but private vehicles will not be permitted for drop-off/pick-up.
