Epic Upgrade Coming Soon – Get Ready for Fewer Clicks, More Flexibility

On Sunday, June 2, 2019, Epic will be upgraded to the 2018 version, which includes improvements that reduce clicks and give the user more flexibility.

Here are a few examples of the exciting changes on the way:

  • The new Visit Taskbar will appear at the bottom of every screen so outpatient providers can place orders from anywhere.
  • The “Brain” is a new feature for inpatient nurses. It serves as a launching point for many common tasks, such as medication administration and routine documentation. Initial features will be rolled out during the launch and more upgrades will be rolled out later.
  • Financial users will notice a smoother look and consolidated activities.

During the next few months, IT teams will be conducting testing, preparing training tools to help you get the most out of the new functionality, and developing support plans so that you have someone to help you during upgrade weekend and beyond.

How You Can Help to Prepare for the Upgrade

  • System users are needed to:
    • Participate in User Acceptance Testing, where real system users simulate daily workflows on the new version and report any issues.
    • Support others as a Super User. Super Users receive new-system training so that they can be the first line of support within departments, helping others navigate the changes.
    • Please contact your manager if you are interested in serving as a Tester or Super User.

Know your downtime procedures. Epic will be unavailable in the early hours of Sunday, June 2, 2019, while the upgrade is being performed. If Sunday is a workday for you, talk to your manager about what you need to do while the system is down.

Look for updates regarding this Epic upgrade in future issues of Weekly Rounds. Details on training, how to get help, and previews of new or reimagined features are in the works and will be revealed soon.
