Introducing: HoopHers Camden

The Camden Health and Athletic Association (CHAA), Sixers Youth Foundation, and Philadelphia Youth Basketball are proud to announce HoopHers Camden, a new summer basketball enrichment program offered free-of-charge to Camden girls ages 9 through 14 at the Rutgers-Camden Gymnasium.

HoopHers Camden empowers young women to become confident student athletes by combining competitive game play with leadership and personal development. This unique initiative features female coaches, mentors, and role models, many of whom are from Camden.

“We are thrilled to team up with the Sixers Youth Foundation to offer HoopHers to young female athletes in the City of Camden,” stated Susan Bass Levin, Chairman of the CHAA Board of Trustees. “This summer program is all about empowering young women by combining athletics, academics, and personal empowerment.”

In addition to basketball skill-building, a core initiative of the HoopHers program is “A Women’s Word,” featuring female mentors of diverse backgrounds, careers, ages, and cultures to engage and empower the girls to succeed. “A Women’s Word” provides a safe space to address the opportunities and challenges that female student athletes face, such as health, nutrition, self-esteem, stress management, and tools for academic success.

“This summer, CHAA is proud to support baseball, basketball, and golf programs throughout the city,” said Al Dyer, Executive Director of CHAA. “Thanks to the commitment of our partners, Camden’s youth are able to participate in a variety of athletic programs, including HoopHers.”

The Rutgers-Camden Gymnasium and Rutgers classrooms will host the HoopHers program now through August 16, 2019, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Registration is on-going. To register, please contact Al Dyer at 856.583.2160 or email info@chaacamden.org.
