Cooper Diabetes Education Program Receives ADA Recognition

The Cooper Diabetes Education Center was recently awarded continued recognition by the American Diabetes Association (ADA) through the Education Recognition Program (ERP), the “gold standard” for Diabetes Education Programs in the United States. The ADA Education Recognition effort is a voluntary process which assures approved education services have met the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education Services. Programs that achieve recognition status have a staff of knowledgeable health care professionals who can provide state-of-the-art information about diabetes management.

Assuring high-quality education for participants’ self-care is one of the primary goals of the ADA Education Recognition Program. Through the support of the health care team and increased knowledge and awareness of diabetes, the person with diabetes can assume a major part of the responsibility for his/her diabetes management. Unnecessary hospital admissions and some of the acute and chronic complications of diabetes may be prevented through self-management education.

This Cooper educational team helps patients gain the tools and knowledge for taking medications, making healthy food choices, and problem solving. In addition, they help patients recognize their own blood glucose patterns, leading to an understanding of how food, medications, activity, and stress can affect one’s blood glucose. They have a host of programs for their patient population and are an excellent referral source.

Congratulations to the team at the Cooper Diabetes Education Center on this important recognition.
