Does Vitamin D Prevent or Lessen Respiratory Infections, Including COVID-19?

Cooper employees may be invited to participate in a study by answering a short, five-minute survey. Invitations to participate in the study come through the Cooper Medical School of Rowan University Redcap research survey server (cooperD3study@rowan.edu).

Vitamin D is an essential hormone manufactured by the skin when exposed to adequate amounts of sunlight. Most people in our region of the world suffer from lack of adequate sunlight and vitamin D deficiency especially in the darker, colder months.

Some studies suggest low levels of vitamin D lead to worse outcomes with COVID-19. There is also some evidence that vitamin D supplementation decreases the risk of and reduces the severity of flu and respiratory infections. Our study hopes to provide high-quality evidence on the efficacy of vitamin D supplementation for respiratory illness prevention.

The study team is in the process of inviting a random set of Cooper employees through email to participate in this study by answering a short, five-minute survey. Participation is completely voluntary. If you think you may have received an invitation but would like it to be resent, feel free to reach out to the study team at CooperD3Study@cooperhealth.edu.
