Employee Story: My Stay at Cooper

We are proud to share the Cooper Patient Experience from the perspective of one our our employees, Accounts Receivable Specialist Shanoah Clark.

“Today I had Huron Rounding with my manager. I shared [this] content with him, recognizing some excellent staff I encountered during my stay at Cooper. I would love it if the management/directors of the team of the people I mentioned above and possibly staff are aware of some of the lovely people they get to work with here.” – Shanoah Clark

“When I think about our culture here at Cooper, along with our mission, I am honored to know that I was in the hands of such great doctors, nurses, technicians, and staff. During one of the most misunderstood times of my life, being sick and not knowing what was going on within my body, I had the opportunity to see our mission at Cooper in full view.

“To Serve.” Stephen Onufer, aka Steve O, is an ER nurse that went above and beyond with every patient he interacted with. A servant with a heart of gold! It didn’t matter if you were a drifter off the street or a screaming nuisance (I saw it all); he just served. His compassion, kindness, and smile….oh and not to mention his sense of humor made my time in the ED worth the wait.

“To Heal.” Bridget Downey, CT Supervisor. There was so much going on in the CT area when I arrived for testing. Mentally, I was all over the place.

Bridget came over to me, apologized for any disruption, comforted me, and kept me updated regarding any holdups. She made me feel at peace while I waited; she was protecting me.

“To Educate.” Justin Soprano, an RN on Pavilion 6. Justin (smiling, just reflecting). I don’t know where to begin. Justin came into my room one day, introduced himself, educated me on my medication, etc. It’s the way he went about it all. It felt like I knew him all my life. I’ll never forget him saying, “this medication is this, and you remember the name by saying it or thinking about this.” “I’ll be back later to check on you and see if you remember the medication names.” He took his time, answered my questions, and gave me homework lol.

“It amazes me to have spent such a short amount of time with such amazing people while being a patient here at Cooper. I am thankful for every interaction. Our Mission and Vision! One Team! One Purpose!”
