Cooper University Health Care Launches New Endocrine Surgery Subspecialty

Cooper University Health Care has launched a new Section of Endocrine Surgery, and has appointed distinguished endocrine specialist Lisa Reid, MD, as the inaugural Section Head of the department.

The new Section of Endocrine Surgery will provide specialized treatment for patients with a wide range of endocrine diseases including diabetes, Cushing’s syndrome, Grave’s disease, goiters, hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, and adrenal and thyroid cancers among other conditions. As one of the leading academic health systems in region, Cooper has expert physicians in in more than 75 specialties. More than 7,000 patients annually are transferred to Cooper from area hospitals for treatment of complex illnesses and injuries.

“Dr. Reid has distinguished herself as an outstanding clinician, leader, and educator. Cooper will now provide comprehensive options for patients with endocrine disorders under her excellent leadership,” said Jeffrey P. Carpenter, MD, Chief of the Department of Surgery at Cooper.

Dr. Reid has practiced at Cooper for 14 years and has led the development of the premier endocrine surgery practice in southern New Jersey. A graduate of University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Dr. Reid completed her surgical residency at Cooper University Hospital, followed by fellowship in endocrine surgery at Massachusetts Eye and Ear, a Harvard Medical School teaching hospital. She will be joined in practice by Maureen Moore, MD, a graduate of Temple University School of Medicine, who completed her residency in general surgery and a fellowship in advanced endocrine surgery at Weill Cornell College of Medicine in New York City.
