Cooper recently honored Internal Medicine residents Dr. Ricky Orozco and Dr. Kat Kaminski, and fourth year Cooper Medical School of Rowan University student Anil Bhatnagar, with the Cooper Heroism Award for saving the life of a man who had collapsed in a restaurant.
During the course of a meal at a local restaurant, the three heard someone from a separate dining area yell for someone to call 911. Hearing the commotion, they sprang into action and found an older gentleman collapsed on the ground with no pulse. They initiated CPR and followed the chain of command procedure during a cardiac arrest. The man was resuscitated, his heart was restarted once the EMS crew arrived, and he was transported to the hospital.
This type of action exemplifies what Cooper Internal Medicine teaches residents and medical students that rotate through our programs – that they are leaders both inside and outside of the hospital.
We are proud of their displays of heroism and recognize them for a job well done!
