February is Marfan Syndrome Awareness Month. Marfan syndrome is an inherited disorder that affects connective tissue — the fibers that support and anchor your organs and other structures in your body. Marfan syndrome can be life threatening when the disease affects the aorta, often leading to preventive surgery.
The Marfan Foundation featured a blog by Douglas M. Richter, MD, FACC, Cooper Cardiologist and member provider of Cooper and Inspira Cardiac Care, who has Marfan syndrome and runs the Genetically Mediated Aortic Disease Clinic at Cooper to treat patients with Marfan and similar aortic diseases. We thank Dr. Richter for his work in supporting patients with Marfan and raising awareness of this disorder.
