Patient Safety Awareness Week

This week, Cooper recognizes Patient Safety Awareness Week. While patient safety is a top priority every day, this week we take extra time to thank the caregivers who keep our patients safe, remember patients and caregivers who have experienced harm, and rededicate ourselves to reducing harm.

According to the Bates harm estimate, which can found in the article The Safety of Inpatient Health Care (New England Journal of Medicine, January 2023), 2.6 million hospital patients are harmed every year in the United States. Of those patients, 340,000 are seriously harmed. That represents one serious preventable harm every 1.5 minutes. This is why it is so important to consistently apply the principles of safety science and our high reliability organizing skills every day.
