April Is Occupational Therapy Month

Every April, we celebrate Occupational Therapy Month to honor the meaningful differences that occupational therapy practitioners make in the lives of patients.

Occupational therapy practitioners are either occupational therapists or occupational therapy assistants. They are skilled health care professionals who use research and scientific evidence to ensure their interventions are effective. They enable people of all ages to live life to its fullest by promoting health and helping them prevent — or live better with — injury, illness, or disability.

Occupational therapy services typically include:

  • An evaluation targeted to the patient that documents that patient’s history, life experiences, and interests. We call this an occupational profile, and it tells us what values and activities are important to a patient during this conversation.
  • An intervention plan that is unique to the patient to improve their ability to perform daily activities and reach their goals.
  • An outcomes evaluation to make sure that the goals the patient sets with their occupational therapy practitioner are being met.

The occupational therapy practitioners at Cooper work with patients in the hospital as well as patients in our outpatient rehabilitation offices. To learn more about Cooper’s rehabilitation services, schedule an appointment, or refer a patient, please call 800.8.COOPER (800.826.6737).
