Community Outreach Team Hosts First Community Advisory Council Meeting

Last month, Cooper’s Community Outreach team hosted their first-ever Community Advisory Council meeting, where Raynisha (Raye) Bulsara, Community Outreach Coordinator, acted as facilitator. In addition to Cooper team members, attendees included community members and representatives from various organizations such as the Center for Family Services, Rutgers School of Nursing, St. Joseph’s Carpentry Society, and the Camden City Council.

The objective of the meeting was to identify the health needs of the community and develop and sustain connections in the community to better serve those needs. Attendees were invited to share their opinions and concerns, and a variety of issues were discussed, including contamination dump sites, lack of parental engagement, dental services, lead screenings, clothing drives, homelessness, transportation, food insecurity, and maternal health. Other attendees proposed more fun and engaging activities, such as pickleball and fitness games, senior expos, and block parties.

The meeting was an important platform for discussing community health needs and developing potential solutions, and the attendees demonstrated a commitment to improving the health and well-being of their community.

The next Community Advisory Council meeting is scheduled for June 6, 2023, at 9:30 a.m. If you would like to attend the next Council meeting or you are interested in being a part of future events, please reach out to Raye Bulsara at bulsara-raynisha@cooperhealth.edu or 856.382.6685.
