Dr. Joshi Elected President of the Association of Program Directors in Surgery

Congratulations to Amit R.T. Joshi, MD, FACS, who has been elected to serve as President of the Association of Program Directors in Surgery. The announcement was made last week during the 2023 Surgical Education Week meeting in San Diego, California.

“I am honored to have been elected to lead this incredible organization, which has been my academic home in education since 2011. I feel so proud to be a physician leader at Cooper University Health Care and Cooper Medical School of Rowan University. Every day, I am fortunate to work with people whose mission is to improve lives through education.”

A general surgeon at Cooper, Dr. Joshi is also Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education and Professor of Surgery at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University. Until 2021, he was the Residency Program Director and Vice-Chair for Academic Affairs for the Department of Surgery at Einstein Healthcare Network in Philadelphia. He has authored more than 150 scientific manuscripts and presentations and holds leadership positions in several surgical organizations, including Editor-in-Chief of the American Board of Surgery’s Surgical Council on Resident Education (SCORE) — which is the national curriculum for general surgery. He is also a past member of the Board of Directors of the American Board of Surgery. He currently serves as the Education Pillar Lead of the American College of Surgeons’ Board of Governors.
