National Pet Therapy Day

Sunday, April 30, 2023, is National Pet Therapy Day.

You may have seen some sweet, furry friends on green leashes visiting in our hallways from time to time. These special pets – and their people – are pet therapy volunteers with PAWS for People, a volunteer-driven, nonprofit pet therapy organization. Cooper has long partnered with PAWS to share the special comfort, joy, and healing pets bring to our patients and team members.

Pet therapy is more than just a visit from a dog, cat, or bunny. Petting an animal triggers a calming physical response with the release of the “feel good” hormones, oxytocin and serotonin. Studies show that even short interactions with a pet can ease anxiety, elevate mood, reduce heart rate, and create a sense of well-being.

More trainings are coming up this year, keep following!
