P7 Nurses and Cooper Team Help Couple Get Married at the Bedside

On March 27, 2023, Cooper team members were able to share in a beautiful wedding ceremony at the bedside. Presided over by Chaplain David Bradley, the bride and groom exchanged their vows with their close family, with a special celebration that included petals down the aisle, music, flowers, and cake. Though the patient and family wish for their names to remain anonymous, they gave their permission to share their photos.

Cooper Chaplain David Bradley wrote in a special thank-you message:

“I want to extend thanks to each of you in this big group for your generous contributions in making the wedding of (our) patient and his now wife (!) such a joyful event. This was a huge team effort, pulling together the patient’s medical team; the leadership, nursing team, and staff of P7; Patient Relations; Social Media and Public Relations; Behavioral Medicine; Nutrition Services; Pastoral Care; and more.

“[The groom and bride], their three children, and [the bride’s] mother were so happy with all that was done. The children hadn’t seen their Papi since he was admitted at the end of November, and you could see how glad they were just to be in the same space with him. And then the added bonus of being part of their first wedding! A big banner greeted the family, music filled the room, rose petals guided the bride to the groom, a crowd gathered at the door, there were copious photos, and a gorgeous cake capped the day. As the reading the couple chose says, ‘Love never fails.’

“The team on P7 managed so much that morning, including great attention to a Code Blue just before the ceremony was to happen. Such grace under pressure.

“This event and teamwork really showed the ‘care’ in health care. We all are present for so much struggle and sadness daily, it’s great when we can lift up joy. You all did that with heart and commitment. Please share this appreciation with your colleagues who might not be on this group email.

“THANK YOU ALL!!” – David
