Cooper’s Comprehensive Stroke Survey window will be open from September 15 through December 14, 2023. During this time, The Joint Commission will conduct a two-day recertification survey of our Comprehensive Stroke Program. The Joint Commission has returned to their typical survey model of an in-person two-day survey with two surveyors. The surveyors will travel throughout the hospital to any and all areas that provide care to our stroke patients.
Team members in all areas of the hospital should be able to recognize the signs and symptoms of stroke and what to do if they think someone is having a stroke:
- B = Balance: Is the person experiencing a sudden loss of balance or coordination?
- E = Eyes: Is the person having a sudden change in vision or trouble seeing?
- F = Face: Ask the person to smile. Does one side of the face droop?
- A = Arms: Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?
- S = Speech: Ask the person to repeat a simple phrase. Is their speech slurred or strange?
- T = Time: If you observe any of these signs, call 666 if located in the hospital or 911 if located at an ambulatory location or in the community.
