Health Care Quality Week

October 15 through October 21, 2023, is Health Care Quality Week. This week recognizes the positive impact that those working in health care quality have in their organizations and communities.

At Cooper, our Quality team members work collaboratively with our multidisciplinary health care teams on driving quality. They have an important “behind the scenes” role in providing an incredible amount of data for research projects, as well as data to support hospital, institute, and nursing quality initiatives. In addition to supplying the data, the Quality team members identify improvement opportunities internally, and provide projections for future performance on publicly reported quality measures. They also provide all quality data required by the New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH), The Joint Commission (TJC), and Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS).

The following are examples of just a few quality improvement initiatives:

  • Reducing perinatal and newborn complications
  • Venous thromboembolism (VTE) reduction (reduction of hospital acquired blood clots)
  • Improved glycemic control in hospitalized patients
  • Improved evidence-based sepsis care
  • The review and classification of all EARS events related to the formal Safety Event Classification system
  • Reducing post-operative respiratory complications
  • Support of the American Heart Association Get with the Guidelines Resuscitation Registry, two registries for the Neonatal ICU, and a suite of American College of Cardiology registries, which provide measurements of care that help to drive improvements in the quality of care provided to respective patient populations
  • Support for Cooper’s Comprehensive Stroke Center certification from The Joint Commission
  • Support for data submission and analysis of nursing sensitive quality indicators that are submitted to the national benchmarked nursing database
  • Oversight of the annual Leapfrog survey
  • Compliance assurance of patient registration for the NJDOH Birth Defect Registry and Autism Registry

Join us in thanking the Quality team for their work in advancing important initiatives at Cooper.
