January 2024 DAISY Award Winner – Casey McGovern, BSN, RN

Casey McGovern, BSN, RN, a staff nurse from the Kelemen 10 unit at Cooper University Hospital, was the DAISY Award winner for January 2024. Casey’s dedication to Cooper Nursing and the extraordinary care she provides to our Cooper patients earned her the following accolades.

“A family member was transferred from the ICU to this floor. She took care of them for many days while there. She always asked the family if they needed something and how they were, even when she wasn’t our nurse. Her compassion for her patients and families shows every time we talked on the unit. It is difficult to put into words the feelings we have knowing she was her nurse. She always greeted the family with a smile, which always put the family at ease. She always made sure the family was updated and understood the plan and if they had any questions after they spoke to the physician. One day stands out, during the planning of comfort care, my sister came in to see her and was very anxious and she was not her nurse but came right over putting a calming hand on my sister’s shoulder as she asked about getting the chaplain to come that night and she didn’t hesitate to say she would find out all the details and then came back to confirm the plan. She then spent a few minutes with the family just talking. I can’t think of a better deserving of this special nursing award than this nurse.”
