New Weapons Detection System To Be Installed at Cooper University Hospital

In our ongoing efforts to enhance the safety of our team members, patients, and visitors, we are pleased to announce the installation of a new weapons screening system at Cooper University Hospital in Camden. If successful, we will implement this screening system at other facilities across the health system.

A team of clinical, security, and administrative leaders researched and studied several security technologies. Our team also spoke to and met with representatives of other health systems similar to Cooper to ensure we chose an effective and efficient system that will truly enhance safety.

The system Cooper chose uses advanced sensors, cameras, and artificial intelligence (AI) to instantly distinguish between weapons and harmless personal items as people walk through the hospital’s entrances into the Roberts, Kelemen, and Dorrance pavilions. If the system identifies a potential threat, a real-time, image-aided alert will show security officers precisely where the threat is located on the person or in their bag.

We anticipate the system will be fully installed and operational by December. Look for more details about this additional layer of safety as we approach the installation date.
