Deborah Cosgrove, BSN, RN, a staff nurse from the Trauma ICU (Pavilion 10) at Cooper University Hospital, was announced as the DAISY Award winner for September 2024. Deborah’s dedication to Cooper Nursing and the extraordinary care she provides to our Cooper patients earned her the following accolades:
“My daughter was transferred to Cooper with severe brain trauma. She was her nurse on her final days before my daughter was to go for organ donation. It was traumatic for me as I hoped my daughter could recover. Obviously, with organ donation, there are a lot of blood draws and testing. She was so compassionate to me, assuring me she would work around me while I held my daughter’s hand and talked to her. She always explained everything she was doing and why. When she asked everyone to leave the room to wash Tess, she asked me if I wanted to stay and help. It was truly a gift I did not expect, and I was grateful. What was supposed to be a four-hour organ retrieval turned to five, then six, then seven, which meant a shift change. The transplant team said we had to wait again, but she offered to stay with my daughter and escorted her to surgery. We were brought in, and she was there with my family when my daughter took her last breath. I have never met a more compassionate nurse ever. Thank you.”
