Commuter Awareness: Upcoming Road Construction Projects in Camden

This fall, the City of Camden will begin construction on several projects to improve streets in downtown and North Camden. Once completed, the projects will improve pedestrian and vehicular safety, reduce traffic congestion, and beautify the area.

Cooper’s Ferry Partnership will oversee the projects and will coordinate with all stakeholders prior to construction in order to minimize disruptions to traffic.

Cooper Street Pedestrian Access Project

Location: Cooper Street between Delaware Avenue and Haddon Avenue

The project includes construction of a fenced median on each block between 5th Street and Haddon Avenue, traffic and pedestrian signal upgrades, ADA-compliant ramps and crosswalks, removal of the 6th Street median, and installation of a new traffic signal and street trees. The project is expected to be completed in spring 2020.

Cooper’s Pyne Poynt Road Reconstruction Project

Location: Street grid north of the Ben Franklin Bridge, including Elm Street, Vine Street, Main Street, Point Street, Front Street, North 2nd Street, North 3rd Street, and North 4th Street.

The project includes replacement of underground utilities, construction of three mini-roundabouts along Main Street, new sidewalks, ADA compliant curb ramps and crosswalks, road resurfacing, landscaping, and street trees and decorative lighting. The project is expected to be complete in spring 2020.

7th Street Gateway Streetscape Improvement Project

Location: North 7th Street between Linden Street and Elm Street

The project includes storm water system upgrades, median replacement, pedestrian safety measures, traffic and pedestrian signal upgrades, ADA compliant curb ramps and crosswalks, road resurfacing, and landscaping. The project is expected to be complete in winter 2020.
