National Women Physicians Day

We join our colleagues from across the country in celebrating National Women Physicians Day on Thursday, February 3, which is the birthday of Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell, the first woman to receive a medical degree in the United States in 1849.

Women represent nearly half of all medical school graduates and assistant professors at academic institutions. Here at Cooper, 44% of our physicians are women. Cooper’s Women In Medicine group, in recognition of the accomplishments and compassionate, quality care provided by all of our women physicians, would like to highlight some of our exceptional women physicians who were promoted this year:

  • Kara Aplin, Vice President of Medical Affairs
  • Lisa Reid, Inaugural Section Head for Endocrine Surgery
  • Andrea Russo, Interim Medical Director for Research Partnership Development
  • Martha Matthews, Medical Staff President
  • Monica Ianosi-Irimie, newly appointed Division Head of Clinical Pathology and Laboratory Medicine
  • Franziska Jovin, Senior Vice President, Chief Experience Officer
