Upcoming Emergency Lockdown Drill in Sewell

As part of our overall active shooter preparedness planning, Cooper’s Security and Emergency Management teams will conduct an emergency lockdown drill at the Cooper Sewell Plaza Drive campus at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 27, 2023.

During the 15- to 20-minute drill, someone pretending to be a volatile person will attempt to gain entry to the Sewell Plaza Drive campus suites, prompting a lockdown of each location. The drill will not include any active shooting scenarios or any injury to team members or patients, and it will not affect patient care.

In addition to notifying our Cooper team members, we have sent communications detailing the drill to patients and non-Cooper Plaza Drive tenants and residents. Additional safety precautions will include signage stating, “Drill in Progress” and Washington Township Police will also be on site in the event of a real-life police response. Additional drills will be scheduled at our hospital and ambulatory locations as we continue to train team members in active shooter/active threat response.

The objectives of the drill include:

  • Exercise Security Command Center’s ability to communicate emergency messaging through Fast Command.
  • Exercise Plaza Drive suites’ ability to efficiently lockdown their facility in response to the presence of a volatile person, including securing patients and team members in hidden locations within the suite.
  • Exercise team members’ ability to access emergency messaging via Fast Command and communicate the status of their suite’s lockdown.
  • Exercise the activation of the Incident Management Team.

Thank you for your cooperation as we perform this important safety measure.
