On Friday, August 2, 2024, 17 nursing students completed Cooper’s annual Nurse Extern Program. The program is a six-week, full-time immersive summer experience for motivated nursing students to further their exposure to clinical nursing practice. Cooper’s nurse externs:
- Participate in patient care with experienced registered nurses (RNs) in a welcoming learning environment.
- Enhance their assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Experience the fast-paced hospital environment of a Level I Trauma and Comprehensive Stroke Center.
- Are given the opportunity to apply as a critical care tech at Cooper upon program completion.
On the final day of the program, participants toured the helipad and learned about the important role of Cooper’s flight team, completed the Stop the Bleed Program, and attended a modified Trauma Injury Prevention Program presentation.
Cooper’s Nurse Extern Program runs annually from June to July. Applications are available every January on Cooper’s career site. To learn more about the program, click here.
