Erynn Heggan, BSN, RN, a staff nurse from the CCU at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, was announced as the DAISY Award winner for December 2024. Erynn’s dedication to Cooper Nursing and the extraordinary care she provided to our Cooper patients earned her the following accolades.
“My mother was admitted and placed on a ventilator. After four days my family was faced with the difficult decision to cease life supporting measures. For two of the four days my mom and family were fortunate to have her as our nurse. Over those two days, she compassionately cared for and ensured my mom’s comfort. She treated her with dignity, proactively informed us on her status, medication changes and the reasoning behind the decisions that were made. She supported visiting family, asking what we needed, bringing extra chairs and coffee. When she was leaving to go home one night, we passed in the hallway, and she stopped to offer me her sympathy for what we were going through. Such a simple thing that meant so much. The compassion, care, and empathy demonstrated by her to both my mom and family stands out as an example for other nurses to follow and require recognition.”
