Stroke Awareness Hits Home: Seniors Get the “BE FAST” Track to Safety

On May 27, 2025, the Cooper Community Outreach team had the pleasure of closing out Memorial Day with a meaningful and impactful event in recognition of Stroke Awareness Month. A heartfelt thank you to Taryn Hester, BSN, RN, CMSRN, for her dedication and energy in educating our senior community.

Taryn spoke with more than 60 seniors, engaging them in an important discussion on recognizing the signs of a stroke and the importance of acting quickly. Her presentation was both informative and reassuring, as she took time to answer individual questions and help attendees feel more confident in identifying stroke symptoms in themselves or their loved ones.

As a powerful takeaway, Taryn reminded everyone of the BE FAST acronym:

  • B – Balance: Sudden loss of balance or coordination.
  • E – Eyes: Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes.
  • F – Face: Facial drooping or uneven smile.
  • A – Arms: Weakness or numbness in one arm.
  • S – Speech: Slurred or strange speech.
  • T – Time: Time to call 911 immediately.

Knowledge is power—and thanks to Taryn, our seniors are now better prepared to act fast and potentially save a life.
