Cooper Receives Consumer Choice Award 9 Years in a Row!

For the ninth straight year, Cooper University Hospital has received a Consumer Choice Award from the National Research Corporation (NRC). The 2013/2014 award identifies hospitals that consumers have chosen for having the highest quality and best doctors, nurses, reputation and overall quality of care.

In addition, Cooper has been recognized for two national Quality and Patient Safety standards from:

  • The Joint Commission as a Top Quality Performer on Key Quality Measures for 2013.
  • The Leapfrog Group with a 2013 Hospital Safety Score of a B rating, an improvement over the previous year.

“The entire Cooper team has worked tirelessly to continually improve the care delivered to our patients and to develop programs to assure stringent quality measures throughout the hospital and outpatient offices,” said Adrienne Kirby, PhD, President and Chief Executive Officer of Cooper University Health Care. “As an academic medical center serving the most critically ill patients, we are constantly developing and implementing improved care delivery models to enhance quality and safety for our patients and our employees. Quality and safety are at the core of who we are as an organization.”

Quality and safety score improvements at Cooper are a result of better coordination and communication among all departments. Detailed “process maps” were developed to address core safety and quality measures as identified by The Joint Commission, the nation’s standards-setting and accrediting body in health care. In addition, Cooper’s electronic medical record system allowed care providers and operational staff to review patient medical records and safety data in real time to identify potential issues and proactively adjust and enhance the care provided.

The Consumer Choice results are derived from NRC’s Market Insights study, a national survey of over 270,000 consumers.
