The Camden County Freeholder Board formed an Opiate and Heroin Addiction Awareness Task Force in 2014 with a mission to increase awareness among county residents of heroin and prescription drug abuse and the devastating effects on the community.
On Tuesday, September 26, 2017, Cooper’s Dr. Michael Sabia, Dr. Anthony Mazzarelli, and Dr. Matthew Salzman attended a meeting of the Taskforce to discuss alternatives to opioids for the treatment of pain. The audience included hospital representatives from all of South Jersey, the fire department, attorneys, law enforcement officials, paramedics, and SJ Magazine.
Dr. Sabia, Division Head for Cooper’s Department of Pain Management, spoke about a new technology that Cooper is using, the Senza/Nevro HF10 High Frequency Stim 10,000Hz, which is an implantable device that helps manage chronic pain with an electrical impulse, rather than the use of medication.
“Exploring alternatives to opioids are key when treating acute and chronic pain. New technology from Senza with HF10 therapy shows great promise in controlling certain chronic pain conditions,” said Dr. Sabia.
