If you’ve been diagnosed with a blood vessel disorder, for example an aneurysm, carotid artery disease, or poor circulation to your legs and feet, vascular surgeons at Cooper University Hospital offer minimally invasive surgical techniques designed to get you fixed, fast.
Known as endovascular surgery, these minimally invasive procedures avoid open-body surgery for select patients, offering less pain and trauma, shorter recovery time and excellent results.
“These procedures are geared to get our patients treated and out of the hospital the same day or sometimes the following day,” said Joseph V. Lombardi, M.D., Head of the Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at Cooper University Hospital. “For instance, patients with trouble walking can come in and have their procedure done, and then walk out of the hospital feeling better instantly that same day.”
Dr. Lombardi is a pioneer in the treatment of thoracic aortic dissection with endovascular grafts and stents and serves as Global Principal Investigator for the STABLE trial, investigating the use of endovascular therapy to treat complicated Type B Thoracic Aortic Dissection. He and Cooper’s multidisciplinary vascular services team provide:
- Endovascular Aneurysm Repair (EVAR)
- Thoracic Endovascular Aneurysm Repair (TEVAR)
- Lower Extremity Angioplasty
- Carotid Artery Angioplasty and Stenting
Most recently, Dr. Lombardi was a vascular surgeon on the staff of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where he was the Director of the Jefferson Aortic Center.
In the near future, Cooper’s Division of Vascular Surgery will offer new treatments for aneurysms in the chest and abdomen. “We’ll be bringing in clinical trials that will give patients immediate access to technology that wouldn’t otherwise be available to them for the next five to seven years,” Dr. Lombardi said. “This, combined with Cooper’s multi-specialty approach to safe and effective treatment, will offer South Jersey residents the highest level of care available for the treatment of aortic disease.”
Cooper’s vascular surgeons have extensive experience in their field, providing comprehensive diagnosis and treatment for all blood vessel disorders.
Dr. Lombardi is seeing patients in Voorhees, Washington Township and Camden. To schedule an appointment, please call 1-800-8-Cooper (1-800-826-6737).
