“We commend the Governor for giving priority to healthcare and particularly to safety net hospitals in this toughest of budget years,” said John P. Sheridan, Jr., President and CEO of the Cooper Health System.
Cooper serves the seven southern counties of New Jersey as the primary tertiary care center and the only Level 1 Trauma Center in South Jersey. Cooper provides more than $150 Million in charity care to our patients every year. While state funding for charity care does not fully cover the actual costs incurred by Cooper for such care, what the state provides along with Medicaid reimbursements are central to the survival of urban hospitals such as Cooper.
