Carla Fynan, RD, Clinical Nutrition Manager at Cooper, wrote an article featured in The Senior Citizens Guide on ways to stay fit and active over the age of 50. When eating dinner, she suggests taking your time and really trying to enjoy what you are digesting into your stomach. Don’t eat while you are watching TV or otherwise distracted.
Studies show that people who eat while they are distracted eat up to 50% more then those who focus on the food that they are eating. Also, try to avoid fast food restaurants like McDonalds, instead eat a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables.
“If you live in New Jersey, chances are that you live near a farmer’s market, and now is the time to go,” said Fynan. “Rarely can you find foods laden with fats, trans fats, high fructose corn syrup, and MSG at your neighborhood farm stand.”
