The security of patients, visitors and staff is a priority at Cooper University Hospital, and we have always taken great strides to ensure that our Health Sciences Campus is safe and crime free.
Cooper has a large force of experienced Security Officers. These officers patrol the Cooper campus around –the-clock, both on foot and in vehicles, to ensure a safe environment.
There are two parking garages for patients, staff and visitors to Cooper. These garages provide direct elevator access into the hospital and the outpatient office building. In addition, both parking garages are monitored by security both on foot and in vehicles. Cooper also offers a convenient valet parking service at the hospital for the same low-cost price as self-parking.
To supplement Cooper’s security force, last year Cooper contracted with the Camden County Sheriff’s office. Their uniformed officers help patrol the Health Sciences Campus throughout the week. In addition, the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey also has a police force on Cooper’s Health Sciences Campus which patrols the area.
There are over 200 security cameras in operation throughout the Health Sciences Campus, and the DRPA and NJ Transit Police monitor the Walter Rand Transportation Center directly across the street from the hospital.
It has been the practice of our Security Department to provide escorts to all parking facilities and the Walter Rand Transportation Center upon request. We encourage our visitors and employees to continue that practice by calling extension 2400 within the hospital. When the Sheriff’s officers are on campus, they too will provide escorts when possible.
Over 5,000 employees and visitors safely come to the Cooper University Hospital campus in Camden every day. We will continue to be diligent in our efforts to ensure their safety.
