Medical School Interviews Ongoing at Cooper Through March 2012

Have you noticed the 24 young adults, dressed in business suits, who assemble in the Roberts Pavilion at the crack of dawn on Friday mornings? Perhaps you’ve seen them touring the hospital or waiting outside the Sim Lab on Kelemen 9? These men and women are among the approximately 300 students who are being interviewed for one of the 50 spots in the charter class of Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU). Interview days began in September and will continue to be held every other Friday through March 2012. The candidates assemble in the lobby and are then escorted to Pavilion 10 where their day officially begins.

Interview days consist of informational sessions; a guided tour of Cooper; participation in Standardized Patient Interviews in the Simulation Lab; and traditional 30-minute interviews with two interviewees, back on Pavilion 10.

According to John McGeehan, MD, Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Admissions at CMSRU, the field of prospective students is spectacular. “They have stellar MCAT scores, distinguished undergraduate careers, and well-rounded extracurricular activities that demonstrate a true commitment to community service,” explains Dr. McGeehan. “Our interviewers and Admissions Committee are doing a great job sorting through these excellent candidates to find the students who best match the mission of our school.”

The charter class of CMSRU will arrive on campus in August 2012
