Cooper Medical School of Rowan University took a major step today with a ceremony to begin clearing the physical site for the new medical school building. Camden Mayor Dana Redd; Cooper University Hospital President and CEO John P. Sheridan, Jr.; Rowan University President Dr. Donald Farish; Rowan University Board Chair Helene Reed; and Founding Dean of the Medical School Paul Katz, MD, put on their hard hats as an excavator with grapple began taking down a vacant building, marking the official start of construction on the site in Camden.

Cooper Celebrates Opening of New Emergency Department

Today, Cooper University Hospital unveiled its new, expanded Emergency Department (ED) with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house for employees and visitors. The new facility is 33,000 square feet and includes 36 brand new, state-of-the-art patient rooms, including: designated adult and pediatric treatment and resuscitation rooms, two private triage rooms, a separate pediatric waiting room, and two decontamination rooms.

In the middle of the bustling city of Camden now lives The DiFlorio Family Healing Garden, a place of respite and tranquility for patients and families to enhance the healing process. During Tuesday’s ceremony, Cooper recognized and thanked Dennis DiFlorio and family as well as other donors whose contributions has made the healing garden possible for patients, families and visitors to enjoy.
