Cooper Nurse Receives DAISY Award

Cooper University Health Care recognized Jan Vincent Adovas, RN, with The DAISY Award for providing exceptional nursing care. Jan works as a nurse on Cooper’s Pavillion 7 Unit. He was nominated by the family of a recent patient and was cited for his professional care, compassion and advocacy on behalf of the patient.

The DAISY Award, established by The DAISY Foundation, is an international program that celebrates the extraordinary care given by nurses every day. Read more.

American Cancer Society Recognizes MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper

MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper was recently recognized by the American Cancer Society (ACS) for our collaboration in furthering our shared mission to eliminate cancer and improve the lives of those diagnosed with cancer through our research, advocacy, support, and patient programs efforts.

In 2017, MD Anderson Cooper partnered with ACS on many cancer prevention and education programs including:

  • 80% by 2018 Program – an initiative designed to improve colorectal cancer screening rates in our communities through coordinated leadership, strategic planning, advocacy and access to colorectal cancer screening services.

Cooper University Health Care Board commits to developing top research program to benefit patients and Camden economy

Last week, Rowan University’s Board of Trustees committed $50 million over ten years to significantly enhance medical and bioscience research at the Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU) in the City of Camden. Cooper University Health Care’s Board voted today committing to a collaborative effort to build a first-rate medical research program focused on recruiting top research and clinical faculty to develop breakthrough medical cures and treatments. Cooper University Health Care was proud to host The American Pain Association’s “Turn the Tide Summit” to address the challenges and strategies surrounding America’s opioid epidemic. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was the keynote speaker at the summit which was attended by medical professionals, elected officials, and former athletes among others.

College Student Donates “Pennies for Preemies” at Cooper

Melvin Sheppard, 20, of Moorestown, NJ,  visited the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper University Health Care to donate the proceeds of his annual penny collection. Melvin started the tradition 12 years ago as a token of thanks for the medical care he received as a premature infant at Cooper. When he was born, he weighed only 2.9 pounds. Read more.

Cooper University Health Care Earns Star Performer Recognition Leading the Way in Post-Fracture Patient Care

Cooper University Health Care is proud to announce that it has received 2018 Star Performer recognition from the American Orthopaedic Association’s (AOA) Own the Bone® program. Cooper is one of approximately 230 health care institutions nationwide that have joined Own the Bone and taken initiatives to ensure their osteoporotic fracture patients receive the highest level of treatment and care.

World Pancreatic Cancer Day

According to the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) Program database, there will be an estimated 53,670 new pancreatic cancer cases this year in the U.S. While many patients still die from this disease, this proportion of patients has been stable for the last ten years, suggesting progress is being made in battling this challenging type of cancer.

“Pancreatic cancer and cancers of the liver and bile ducts are complicated and difficult to manage,” says Frank Spitz, MD, Hepatobiliary Surgeon and Deputy Director of MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper. Read more.
