Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper Makes Great Strides for March of Dimes Walk

More than 50 dedicated Team Cooper members from around Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper (and friends and family members) joined together on Sunday, April 27, 2014, to walk Camden County's “March for Babies.” Sponsored by the New Jersey March of Dimes, the walk raises money to help the March of Dimes ensure healthy starts for premature infants. The combination of bake sales, a raffle basket auction, and personal donations helped Team Cooper raised nearly $5,000 to support this worthy cause in 2014.

Walkers from across the Department of OB/GYN, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper and more joined together to participate in the Promise Walk for Preeclampsia, held at Challenge Grove Park in Cherry Hill on Saturday, May 3, 2014.  The Promise Walk for Preeclampsia™ supports the mission of the Preeclampsia Foundation to provide patient support and education, raise public awareness, catalyze research and improve health care practices for millions of mothers and their babies every year who are impacted by preeclampsia and related hypertensive disorders of pregnancy. Cooper Learning Center Hosts Regional Dyslexia Learning Conference

On Saturday May 3, 2014, Cooper Learning Center, part of the Children's Regional Hospital at Cooper, hosted a regional conference on dyslexia and language-related disabilities. Over 125 parents and educators from across Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware came together to explore these topics at "Facets of Dyslexia," held at the Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine in Stratford.

“She has read the whole Harry Potter series nine times!” says her mom, Susan Friedler, DO, Attending Physician, General Pediatrics at the Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper, and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the Cooper Medical School at Rowan University.

While helping her mom sort through books for pediatric patients at Cooper, Rebecca has noticed a shortage of books suited for older children. Read more.

Avon Breast Health Outreach Program Awards Grant to MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper

Funding Will Support County-Wide Breast Cancer Screening Program

The Avon Breast Health Outreach Program has awarded a $35,000 one-year grant to MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper for its Camden County Cancer Screening Project (CCCSP) to increase awareness of the life-saving benefits of early detection of breast cancer. It is the eighth year that the program has received funding from the Avon Foundation for Women to support its work on this important health issue, and in recognition of the program’s excellence. The region’s leading diabetes advocacy group, JDRF, on April 5, 2014 awarded Ernest Post, MD, Head, Division of Pediatric Endocrinology at Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper, and Marc Laufgraben, MD, MBA, Head, Division of Adult Endocrinology, Cooper University Health Care, their Distinguished Service Awards for 2014. The awards honor outstanding contributions to patients and families, as well as a spirit of service and support in the fight against Type 1 diabetes (T1D) in the region.

Center Named in Honor of the Ripa Family, Long-Time Cooper Supporters

Cooper University Health Care executive leaders and local officials gathered on April 3, 2014, for a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Ripa Center for Women’s Health and Wellness in Voorhees, NJ. Noted physician and health policy innovator Jeffrey Brenner to receive honorary degree at Rutgers–Camden convocation on May 21, 2014

Brenner, MD, a primary care physician at Cooper Health whose efforts to improve the delivery of health care to the nation’s most impoverished citizens earned a MacArthur “Genius Grant” Fellowship in 2013, will receive an Honorary Doctor of Science degree from Rutgers University–Camden during the campus’ Commencement and Honors Convocation ceremony on Wednesday, May 21, 2014.

The selection of Brenner, who also will serve as Rutgers–Camden’s keynote speaker at the campus-wide ceremony, was confirmed by the Rutgers Board of Governors during its regular meeting in New Brunswick on Tuesday, April 1, 2014. Read more.
