What Is Lymphoma?

This week, actor Jeff Bridges announced that he was recently diagnosed with lymphoma and is undergoing treatment. While many people are familiar with lung, breast, and colorectal cancers, they may not know as much about lymphoma.

Lymphoma is a cancer that starts in cells called lymphocytes that are part of the body’s immune system. Lymphocytes are a type of white blood cell found in the lymph nodes, spleen, thymus, bone marrow, and almost every other organ of the body. Read more.

Cooper University Health Care Achieves Two Cardiac Firsts Involving Next-Generation Watchman FLX(TM) Device

Cardiac specialists at Cooper University Health Care recently achieved two recent medical firsts: The team was the first in the Philadelphia region to successfully implant Boston Scientific’s Watchman FLXTM device, and Cooper enrolled the first patient in the OPTION clinical trial involving the same device.

The Watchman FLX is the next generation of a potentially life-changing, catheter-based (or non-surgically delivered) device designed to close the left atrial appendage. Read more.

Cooper University Health Care Receives Mission: Lifeline Silver Receiving Quality Achievement Award

(Camden, NJ)  — Cooper University Health Care has received the Mission: Lifeline® Silver Receiving Quality Achievement Award for implementing specific quality improvement measures outlined by the American Heart Association for the treatment of patients who suffer severe heart attacks.

Every year, more than 250,000 people experience an ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), the deadliest type of heart attack, caused by a blockage of blood flow to the heart that requires timely treatment. Read more.

On October 5, The Cooper Foundation announced that the Pink Roses Teal Magnolias Outdoor Brunch and Golf Outing raised $50,000 for breast and gynecologic cancer research and clinical programs at MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper.

More than 120 guests and golfers attended the ​sold out, socially-distant outdoor brunch and nine-hole golf outing at Ramblewood Country Club in Mt. Laurel, NJ. Read more.

Cooper University Health Care Opens New Trauma Surgical ICU

Cooper University Health Care has opened a new 28-bed Trauma and Surgical Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on the top floor of its Roberts Pavilion building to expand the academic health system’s advanced critical care capacity to 86 beds. The top floor of the building previously housed conference rooms and administrative offices.

“As the leading academic health system and only Level 1 Trauma Center in South Jersey, Cooper is the foremost provider of critical care services and this new unit will allow us expand to meet the needs of the community,” said Kevin O’Dowd, JD, co-CEO of Cooper. Read more.
