Following a serious illness, John McGeehan, MD, a primary care Internist at Cooper University Health Care and professor of clinical medicine at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, set out to write a collection of short stories highlighting moments and insights from his more than 40 years in medicine as a means to aid in his recovery. MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper is proud to offer a variety of support groups that help guide survivors through their cancer treatment and beyond. This fall, one of those groups – Sister Will You Help Me – will celebrate its 20th anniversary.
Sister Will You Help Me is a cancer support group for women of color and faith – one of the few minority-focused cancer support groups in the South Jersey region. Read more.
Cooper University Health Care will open the first neighborhood-based COVID-19 Vaccination and Education Center at the Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Community Center in Camden. The Cramer Hill site will be open for vaccination appointments for Camden residents beginning Saturday, February 20, 2021. The Cramer Hill and East Camden section makes up 38% of Camden’s population, but accounts for 44% of COVID-19 cases in the City. Read more.
The Philadelphia Academy of Surgery, the nation’s oldest surgical society, recognized the work of residents earlier this month at the Annual Surgical Trainee Paper Competition. Medical schools and residencies throughout the region participated in the competition, which was attended by approximately 100 academic surgeons and surgical chairs and deans.

Cooper University Health Care, which operates three urgent care centers in the South Jersey region, has received a re-accreditation designation from the Urgent Care Association of America. Cooper first received this accreditation in 2018. It is the highest level of distinction for urgent care centers in the nation.
The accreditation certifies that Cooper – with centers located in Cherry Hill, Audubon, and Cinnaminson, NJ – has met all of the Urgent Care Association of America’s established standards and criteria for quality of patient care, safety, and scope of services. Read more.
The physical act of smiling has an impact on one’s mood as they do it. Regardless of how small that impact may be, any happiness we are able to generate for ourselves goes a long way as we continue to experience difficult situations. With so much tragedy surrounding us as the coronavirus pandemic rages on, happiness is few and far between and can sometimes feel impossible to achieve on your own. Read more.

Christa A. Schorr, DNP, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, FCCM, a clinical nurse scientist at Cooper University Health Care and Associate Professor of Medicine at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, has been named the 2021 recipient of the prestigious A.S. Laerdal Memorial Lecture Award by the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM).
