As part of a grant from the New Jersey Department of Human Services, Cooper University Health Care in conjunction with Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine is offering free training courses for physicians, NPs and PAs on the use of Buprenorphine for the treatment of opioid use disorder. The course — which is half live and half online — is designed to meet the requirement for a buprenorphine waiver (X-waiver) certification under the DATA 2000 federal law. Read more.
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is sudden damage to the brain caused by an outside force to the head – such as a car crash, a fall, or something hitting the head. An estimated 2.5 million Americans sustain TBI each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Severe TBI contributes to 30% of all injury-related deaths, and many who survive are left permanently disabled. Read more.
May 19-25, 2019, is the 45th annual National Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week. In 1974, President Gerald Ford authorized EMS Week to celebrate EMS practitioners and the important work they do in our nation’s communities. The National Association of EMTs (@NAEMT) partners with the American College of Emergency Physicians (@ACEP) to lead annual EMS Week activities. Together, NAEMT and ACEP are working to ensure that the important contributions of EMS practitioners in safeguarding the health, safety, and well being of their communities are fully celebrated and recognized. Cooper University Health Care presented the 2019 Cooper Military Employee of the Year Award to advanced practice nurse Ella Hawk, a member of the hospital’s cardiothoracic surgery team. Andrea M. Russo, MD, a cardiologist and director of the electrophysiology and arrhythmia service at Cooper University Health, was inducted as the president of the Heart Rhythm Society (HRS) at its annual meeting in San Francisco May 8-11, 2019.
HRS is an international society of electrophysiologists with over 10,000 members internationally and professionals from more than 70 countries. Founded in 1979, it is the leading resource on Cardiac Pacing and Electrophysiology in the world. Read more.
MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper and Holy Redeemer Health System have signed a Letter of Intent to develop a joint cancer program at Holy Redeemer Hospital. The agreement will expand the reach of Cooper University Health Care’s partnership with one of the leading cancer centers in the nation, MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
The physicians at MD Anderson at Cooper will provide clinical oversight of the cancer program at the Holy Redeemer campus and beyond. Read more.
Caregiver compassion is a vital element of health care quality. Studies have shown that compassion from caregivers – as perceived by patients – can lead to improved outcomes for patients, lower health care costs, and even reduced burnout among health care providers.
