More Than $1 Million Raised Since First Event in 2011

Susan Bass Levin, President and CEO of The Cooper Foundation, announced that the Ninth Annual Jim Fifis Lung Cancer Research Fund Dinner, held on Sept. 17, raised $125,000 for the lung cancer program at MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper.

Since its founding in 2011, this annual event has raised more than $1 million to support lung cancer research at MD Anderson at Cooper, South Jersey’s most comprehensive resource for the diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer. Read more.

Cooper University Health Care Chairman George E. Norcross III announced that the health system, through The Cooper Foundation, has established a Bahamian Relief Fund to provide support to those affected by Hurricane Dorian that devastated the island nation last week. In the past few years, Cooper employees have contributed over $45,000 for hurricane relief efforts in Puerto Rico and Houston following Hurricane Maria and Hurricane Harvey. A potential complication of traditional vascular surgery and stenting for stroke prevention in patients with carotid artery disease is the risk of a stroke occurring during the procedure itself. Vascular surgeons at Cooper University Health Care are now performing a new, advanced minimally invasive technique to deliver a stent into a blocked artery while reducing the risk of stroke. One day, John Williamson and Madison Crutcher were moving in together. The next, their worlds were turned upside down.

In late June 2019, my girlfriend Madison Crutcher and I moved in together in Philadelphia’s Fairmount section as we both continued our medical residencies at Hahnemann University Hospital. We hoped it would be an exciting new chapter in our relationship.

More Than 2,200 Backpacks and School Supplies Donated Through The Cooper Foundation’s Operation Backpack

CAMDEN, N.J. — The Cooper Foundation, along with city officials and school leaders, today distributed backpacks and school supplies to every student at KIPP Cooper Norcross Academy (KCNA) Lanning Square Primary and Middle School campus and KCNA Whittier Middle School in Bergen Square. KCNA serves students in Pre-K through 8^th grade. Read more.

Cooper University Health Care recently recognized Jennifer Orr, RN, of Collingswood, NJ, with the DAISY Award for providing exceptional nursing care. Orr is a nurse in Cooper’s Intensive Care Unit.

Orr was nominated by Mary Jane Durkin, MSN, RN, OCN, an oncology clinical educator at Cooper, following a hospitalization.

“She never assumed because I was a nurse, that I knew everything,” said Durkin who has since recovered from coronary bypass surgery. Read more.
