Stephen W. Trzeciak, MD, MPH, has been selected to receive The Philadelphia Inquirer’s 2019 Influencer of Healthcare Award. This award program honors Philadelphia’s most influential health care professionals. Dr. Trzeciak is one of 27 awardees who will be honored at a ceremony, as well as profiled in a special section of the Sunday Inquirer.

Dr. Trzeciak is a physician scientist, professor and chair of medicine at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU), and the chief of medicine at Cooper University Health Care. Read more.

On July 26, 2019 the Camden Health & Athletic Association (CHAA) hosted a free Football Skills & Drills clinic in partnership with Jaws Youth Playbook.

The clinic was open to Camden residents ages 5-16 who participated in a series of drills to enhance the skills of passing, catching and running in a non-contact setting. Prior to the clinic, former Philadelphia Eagles Quarterback and founder of Jaws Youth Playbook, Ron Jaworski, addressed the group. Read more.

Cooper University Health Care recently became the first hospital in South Jersey to offer the LINX® Reflux Management System for people whose chronic gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) cannot be controlled medically.

Unlike standard surgical treatments for GERD, the minimally invasive LINX treatment uses a tiny bracelet of magnetic titanium beads to surround and compress the lower esophageal sphincter. This valve normally prevents stomach fluids from refluxing into the esophagus. Read more.

The Cooper Foundation of Cooper University Health Care will kick-off its free Summer in the City Music Festival in the Park on Tuesday, July 23, 2019, at 5:30 p.m. in Sheila L. Roberts Park with a concert by To The Max.

Harish Kakkilaya, MD, FACS, FASMBS, has joined Cooper University Health Care’s Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Center, a multidisciplinary program to help people with obesity or morbid obesity achieve and maintain their weight-loss goals and improve their health.

On Friday, June 28th, Special Operations Combat Medics (SOCM) rotating at Cooper accompanied by our own Cooper Military training team traveled to Sea Girt to train over 150 New Jersey State Police Cadets in “Stop The Bleed”. “Stop The Bleed” training is part of a national initiative aimed at putting knowledge gained by first responders and the military into the hands of the public to help save lives during times of disaster. This week, Cooper University Health Care became the first hospital in New Jersey to offer bronchoscopic lung volume reduction as a treatment option for patients with severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or emphysema.

“This is another first for Cooper, and we’re excited to offer this new treatment for patients. Previously, patients were limited to more invasive surgical options. This new treatment is also a breakthrough for patients who are not candidates for surgery and now have a shot at a better quality of life,” said Wissam Abouzgheib, MD, Head of Interventional Pulmonary at Cooper. A team of Cooper’s Transitional Navigators participated in the Ronald McDonald House of Southern New Jersey 5th Annual Ronald House 5k run on June 1, 2019. RMHSNJ provides a home-away-from-home to families of seriously ill and traumatically injured children who need a place to stay where they can be close to their child while they are being treated at Cooper.
