Last week, Bob Chester and Zach Ewan, members of Cooper’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) team, met a local family helping relatives from Puerto Rico who were displaced by Hurricane Maria. They knew this family would need some help getting through the season. Together with on- and off-duty staff, donations came in for a Christmas tree, toys, and gift certificates to use for clothing. Cooper University Health Care announced today that it will no longer pursue the acquisition of Trinity Health’s New Jersey assets, including Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center, Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington, and St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton. Cooper signed a Letter of Intent on August 31, 2017, to acquire Trinity Health’s New Jersey hospitals.

Since the Letter of Intent was executed, Cooper University Health Care has undertaken substantial and exhaustive due diligence with respect to the proposed transaction that included a comprehensive review of compliance, legal, regulatory, and operational issues.  Read more.

Scuba Santa and his helpers from the Adventure Aquarium in Camden made a holiday visit to Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper to visit with young patients and their families. During his visit, Scuba Santa read a sea-life themed version of T’was The Night Before Christmas and distributed teddy bears.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was the keynote speaker at the summit which was attended by medical professionals, elected officials, and former athletes among others.

With reports of Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz’ season-ending ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) tear, there is renewed focus on this type of sports injury. Unfortunately, this type of injury is common in athletes and non-athletes alike.

First, it is important to understand what the ACL is and how it functions. The ACL is a band of tissue within the knee joint that functions to stabilize the knee during certain activities. Read more.

While the reindeer rest up for their big night on Christmas Eve, the flight crew of Cooper 1, Cooper University Health Care’s air medical transport helicopter, gave Santa a lift as he made a pre-Christmas visit to the hospital.  For the past five years, Santa has completed a pre-holiday test run to visit children hospitalized at Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper. Melvin Sheppard, 20, of Moorestown, NJ,  visited the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper University Health Care to donate the proceeds of his annual penny collection. Melvin started the tradition 12 years ago as a token of thanks for the medical care he received as a premature infant at Cooper. When he was born, he weighed only 2.9 pounds. Read more.

According to the American Cancer Society, screening increases the chances of detecting certain cancers early, when they are most likely to be treated successfully.
