Here at Cooper, we are fortunate to have five female trauma surgeons on staff, comprising 50 percent of our trauma surgery staff of physicians. This complement of female trauma surgeons is almost unheard of in trauma centers around the country where many do not even have one female trauma surgeon on staff.
Cooper, one of only three state-designated Level 1 Trauma Centers in NJ, is the only hospital in the Delaware Valley/Philadelphia region that provides trauma care for both adults and children. Read more.

On Tuesday, July 10, 2018, Allen D. Seftel, MD, FACS, Head of the Division of Urology at Cooper, presented an update on sexual dysfunction for the NYU Winthrop Hospital’s Urology Grand Rounds. During Grand Rounds, speakers present medical education and patient care topics to an audience of colleagues, including doctors, residents, and medical students. Today’s presentation covered therapies for Peyronie’s Disease, the diagnosis of male hypogonadism, and treatment options for male erectile dysfunction. Read more.
A South Jersey group of knitters is teaming up with Cooper University Health Care to help women diagnosed with breast cancer. As affiliates of Knitted Knockers, a nationwide non-profit, the volunteers are creating hand-knitted prosthetic breasts for women who have undergone mastectomies or other breast procedures.
In the past year, the group has provided more than 50 sets, which come in a variety of sizes and colors, to patients at MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper. Read more.
Today, Cooper University Health Care opened a new 5,500 square-foot addition to its Emergency Department (ED) featuring 10 state-of-the-art exam rooms that will improve the patient experience and reduce wait times.
“Cooper has one of the busiest emergency departments in the region as the only Level 1 Trauma Center in South Jersey, this addition will help us better serve our community and improve the patient experience in the ED,” said Kevin O’Dowd, JD, co-president of Cooper University Health Care. Read more.
The American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) recently awarded Cooper University Health Care employee Priscilla J. Peters, BA, RDCS, FASE, with the Cardiovascular Sonographer Distinguished Teacher Award. This prestigious national recognition is awarded to a sonographer instructor who is attentive to cardiovascular sonography professional values and who exhibits values of leadership and dedication to the field of echocardiography.
Peters, an educator and specialist in Cooper’s Echocardiology Department, and a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU), has been with Cooper since 2004. Read more.
Fredric L. Ginsberg, MD, FACC, FACCP, a clinical cardiologist and co-medical director of the Cooper Heart Institute, has been named medical director of cardiac services at Premier Cadbury of Cherry Hill. Premier Cadbury is a continuing care retirement community that offers independent living, assisted living, memory care, and sub-acute rehabilitation, as well as long-term care.

More than 200 former patients and family members attended Cooper University Health Care’s “Princesses & Super Heroes” NICU reunion at Washington Lake Park in Sewell, NJ, on Saturday, June 30, 2018. The fun reunion event celebrated babies and their families who have “graduated” from the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit over the past several years. The event highlighted the strides these children have made since being born prematurely or with critical health issues, and the excellent care they received at Cooper. Read more.
On Thursday, June 28, 2018, Cooper urologists Dr. Allen D. Seftel, Head of the Division of Urology at Cooper, and Dr. Ronak Gor, Director of Genitourinary Reconstruction and Trauma at Cooper, presented a free information session on male sexual and urination problems at the Cherry Hill Library Conference Center. This event offered support and education for men who have tried and failed first-line treatments for erectile dysfunction and urine leakage, including a discussion of advanced treatment options for erectile dysfunction for men who have tried pills or other therapies, and men who wear pads due to stress urinary incontinence, possibly following prostate cancer treatment.
