For the third consecutive year, a team of physicians from Cooper University Health Care traveled to Tanzania at the end of September to provide advanced medical education in partnership with Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences and Aga Khan Hospital in Dar es Salaam. Muhimbili National Hospital, the largest hospital in Tanzania, houses 1,500 beds and serves a population of more than 7 million. Read more.

Cooper University Health Care’s Center for Healing has unveiled a new mobile health services van that will help expand outreach to those suffering from substance use disorders in Camden. The new unit was purchased through a $341,000 grant from Camden County as part of the nationwide opioid settlement payment to states.

A revolution in nursing education is underway for the first group of students enrolled in the newly introduced 15-month Thomas Edison State University (TESU) Accelerated BSN BAYADA Scholars Track at Cooper University Health Care (Cooper).

Announced in May, the BAYADA Scholars Track at Cooper is designed to help alleviate the nursing shortage in New Jersey and create more exceptional nurses for the community. Read more.

On Monday and Tuesday, September 23 and 24, the first floor of both the north and south Main Street garages on Cooper’s Voorhees Campus will be closed for planned repairs. The second and third floors of the garages, as well as all surface lots, will remain open.

Cooper University Health Care is now offering Inspire therapy, a surgical therapy for patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) who are unable to tolerate Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) therapy.

“Patients with sleep apnea often see us after they trial but fail to tolerate CPAP. Many arrive chronically exhausted, frustrated and looking for surgical options which may improve their quality of life,” said Cooper otolaryngologist Brian Swendseid, MD, who helped bring Inspire therapy to Cooper and has now successfully performed the first implantations within the hospital system.
